Content Writing, in order to do right, we must have a clarity of what we are writing about, how to write and fine tuning of it post writing.

What are we writing about?

You can’t just write stuff and expect that it ranks. You have to be strategic. I’ve made my shares of mistakes on this. Please don’t make this mistake. I use SEMRUSH to do my homework.

You can use AHREF or any other planning tools too. I do look at google trends too:
https://trends.google.com/trends; which is free to look at the traffic and decide which keyword is best for your niche to target, related queries, interest over time, related topics, etc.

Once I’m sure about seed keywords, I post it in Semrush’s Keyword Strategy Builder.

This gives me a list of keywords, volume, intent, trend, CPC.

Volume, Intent, Trend and CPC

Volume, Intent, Trend, and CPC are really important in SEO based content writing.

Volume:

Refers to the number of searches for a specific keyword. High search volume indicates higher potential traffic, but it’s essential to balance it with competition and relevance to your target audience.

Intent:

Represents the purpose behind a user’s search (informational, navigational, transactional). Aligning content with user intent ensures higher engagement, better rankings, and increased conversions.

  1. Informational Intent
Description: The user is seeking information, answers, or knowledge (e.g., “how to tie a tie,” “what is SEO?”).
When to Focus: When building brand awareness or establishing authority. For creating blog posts, guides, FAQs, or educational content.
Early in the customer journey when users are researching.
Example: A blog post titled “10 Tips for Healthy Eating” targets users looking for advice.
  2. Navigational Intent
Description: The user is looking for a specific website, brand, or page (e.g., “Facebook login,” “Nike official store”).
When to Focus: For branded keywords or when users are already familiar with your brand. To optimize for your brand name or product names.
To ensure users can easily find your website or specific pages.
Example: A page titled “Apple Store Locator” targets users searching for Apple retail locations.
  3. Transactional Intent
Description: The user is ready to take action, such as making a purchase, signing up, or downloading (e.g., “buy iPhone 15,” “best VPN deals”).
When to Focus: For e-commerce sites or businesses with a clear conversion goal.
When targeting high-intent keywords that drive sales or leads. Late in the customer journey when users are ready to convert.
Example: A product page titled “Buy Nike Air Max Online” targets users ready to purchase.

Which Intent to Focus On(in-short)?

  • Informational: Focus early in the funnel to attract and educate users.
  • Navigational: Focus if you have a strong brand presence or want to capture branded traffic.
  • Transactional: Focus if your goal is direct conversions or sales.

Trend:

Reflects the popularity of a keyword over time. Tracking trends helps identify seasonal opportunities, emerging topics, or declining interest, allowing you to optimize content proactively.

CPC (Cost-Per-Click):

Indicates the competitiveness and commercial value of a keyword. High CPC keywords often signify strong monetization potential, making them valuable for both SEO and paid campaigns.

Summary of the section:

Decide the intent based on which state of branding your website is in or your goal. You cannot have all the keywords all at once. So, you have to choose high volume keywords, with high CPC, upward trending keywords with the right intent.

How to write?

Now that you have a list of keywords, use the keyword builder strategy’s clustering feature that uses AI to help you shape the pillar page, subpage, and decide keywords in each page.

Remember to select keywords with volumes 100+ and KD between 0 to 49. Makes it easier to rank  while you have good volume traffic.

The article should have a smooth, logical progression of ideas. It should start with an engaging introduction, followed by a well-structured body, and conclude with a clear ending.

The content should have a clear header structure, with all sections placed as H2, their subsections as H3, etc.

Include, but not overuse, keywords important for this subject in headers, body, and within title and meta description. If a particular keyword cannot be placed naturally, don't include it, to avoid keywords stuffing.
